Raipur, June 11, 2023: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel today urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to include Bilaspur in the Udan-5 Scheme.
The Chief Minister has written a letter to the Union Minister Scindia today, official sources said here.
Following the four successful rounds of bidding, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched the 5th round of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) to further enhance the connectivity to remote and regional areas of the country and achieve last mile connectivity.
Baghel urged Scindia to take early steps to include Bilaspur city in the Udan-5 scheme.
After reports came in that the Bilaspur city was not included in the Udan-5 scheme, the Chief Minister said from the state budget Rs 45 crore had been spent to construct the Terminal building, runway and put other security apparatus to start the Bilaspur airport.
After lot of efforts flight services were started from Bilaspur to Jabalpur, New Delhi, Prayagraj and Indore.
The city terminal was also getting a good amount of passenger traffic. But for unknown reason the flight service to Indore was cancelled, Baghel said.
Bilaspur is the second important city of the state and the High Court is also located here, he said advocating the city of Bilaspur be included in the Udan-5 scheme of the Centre.
