Raipur, July 21, 2025: The road network in Chhattisgarh is being expanded rapidly. Along with this, it has also been decided to build an industrial corridor to accelerate industrial activities in Chhattisgarh.
On the initiative of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, work has started to build a strong network of roads in the remote and backward areas of the state including two economic corridors in the state to fulfill the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a developed India.
Currently, work is going on in 37 projects costing a total of Rs 18,215 crore for the development of national highways in Chhattisgarh. 11 detailed project reports (DPRs) are being prepared for the development of national highways, the length of these roads will be 1131 km, with a total cost of Rs 24,693 crore.
For the upgradation of national highways, 18 projects costing a total of Rs 5353 crore have been approved by the Government of India, the completion of which will give a new impetus to the development of the state.
In the state, 840 km long single-intermediate lane national highway has been upgraded to 2 or more lanes from 2014 to 2025. Rs 21,380 crore has been spent from 2014 to 2025 for the development of national highways in the state.
Apart from national highways, the Government of India has approved 70 works at a total cost of Rs 3826 crore for the development of state roads under Central Road and CRIF and Economic Importance and Inter State Connectivity from 2014 to 2025.
The network of highways is being further strengthened in areas like Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Bastar and Sarguja. To provide relief to the citizens of Raipur and Durg city from dense and heavy traffic, a 92 km long 6 lane Raipur-Durg bypass is also being constructed in 2 packages, the cost of which is Rs 2289 crore.
Two economic corridors
Through the port of Visakhapatnam, Chhattisgarh’s products will get a global market, and new employment opportunities will also be created. Raipur-Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor is being constructed, the length of this 6-lane road will be 124 km. Rs 4146 crore has been sanctioned for this route and construction work is in progress.
To connect Raipur and Bilaspur with Jharkhand’s industrial cities Ranchi and Dhanbad, a 4-lane Bilaspur-Urga-Pathalgaon road is being constructed, whose length is 157 km and cost is Rs 4007 crore.
LWE and Janman Yojana
The Government of India has spent an amount of Rs 2625 crore for the development of important roads under the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) scheme from 2014 to 2025 to end the problem of Naxalism in Chhattisgarh.
Similarly, for the development of special backward tribal groups, 715 roads, 2449 km. and Rs 1699 crores have been sanctioned to the state under PM-Janman Yojana. 775 special backward tribal settlements will be benefited from these roads.
Out of the 4831 km length sanctioned to the states in the country by the Government of India, 2449 km length has been sanctioned to the state, which is 51 per cent of the total sanction.
It has been decided to build Korba-Bilaspur Industrial Corridor to promote industrial activities around national highways. The total length of Urga-Katghora bypass Basna to Sarangarh (Manikpur) feeder route, Sarangarh to Raigarh feeder route and Raipur-Lakhanadon economic corridor projects is 236.1 km, for which the Government of India has sanctioned a total of Rs 9208 crore. Rs 908 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of roads from the Central Road Fund.
