Ambikapur, November 20, 2025: President Droupadi Murmu today said the contribution of tribal communities is a glorious chapter in India’s history.

Addressing the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day) celebrations organized by the Chhattisgarh government in Ambikapur, Sarguja district, President Murmu said that the contribution of tribal communities is a glorious chapter in India’s history, the mother of democracy.

Examples of this can be seen in ancient republics as well as in many tribal traditions, such as the ‘Muria Darbar’ in Bastar – the parliament of tribal people, she said.

The President said that tribal heritage has deep roots in various parts of the country, including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

She expressed happiness that this year the Chhattisgarh government celebrated the Janjatiya Gaurav Fortnight on a grand scale from November 1 to November 15.

The President underlined that over the past decade, national-level schemes have been developed and implemented for the development and welfare of tribal communities.

Last year, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the ‘Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’ was launched. The benefits of this campaign will reach over 50 million tribal brothers and sisters across the country, she said.

In 2023, the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM-Janman Abhiyan) was launched for the social and economic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). All these schemes are a testimony to the priority the government gives to tribal communities, Murmu said.

The President said that to reinvigorate the development efforts of tribal communities, the Government of India launched the ‘Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan’ during the year of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He mentioned that a network of approximately 2 million volunteers is being created across the country under this campaign. He expressed confidence that these volunteers will ensure the development of tribal communities by working at the grassroots level.

Murmu expressed happiness to note that people across the country, including in Chhattisgarh, are abandoning the path of Left Wing Extremism and joining the mainstream of development.

She said that with the deliberate and well-organized efforts of the central and state governments, it will be possible to eradicate left-wing extremism in the near future.

Murmu expressed happiness that more than 165,000 participants took part in the recently held ‘Bastar Olympics’. She expressed confidence that by following the ideals of tribal great men, the people of Chhattisgarh will make invaluable contributions to building a strong, self-reliant, and developed India.
