Raipur, March 17, 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today stated that the total power generation capacity of the state’s power plants is 30,000 megawatts, and that the state’s electricity generation capacity and Plant Load Factor (PLF) rank among the leading states in the country.
Replying to a discussion in the Legislative Assembly regarding the Demands for Grants related to his departments, Chief Minister Sai affirmed that the state is fully prepared to play a leading role as a major energy provider in the realisation of a ‘Developed India’ and a ‘Developed Chhattisgarh’.
The total power generation capacity of the state’s power plants stands at 30,000 MW, of which thermal power plants account for a capacity of 24,000 MW. The state’s electricity generation capacity and Plant Load Factor are counted among the top-performing states in the nation, Sai said.

His government is continuously setting new benchmarks in its pursuit of energy self-reliance. Through the Energy Summit, investment proposals worth approximately Rs 3.5 lakh crore have been received, and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with various entities for projects totaling 32,000 MW in capacity, the Chief Minister said.
He further informed that work is currently in progress on two super-critical units—each with a capacity of 660 MW—at Korba West, and that six sites have been identified for Pumped Storage Hydropower Projects with a combined capacity of 8,300 MW.
The Chief Minister emphasised that ensuring a continuous supply of electricity to general consumers at concessional rates remains the government’s top priority.
To this end, provisions have been made like Rs 354 crore to provide up to 30 units of free electricity to BPL (Below Poverty Line) families; Rs 800 crore to provide relief to 42 lakh domestic consumers on consumption up to 400 units under the ‘Chief Minister Energy Relief Public Campaign’ (Mukhyamantri Urja Rahat Jan Abhiyan); Rs 400 crore for the state’s contribution towards the ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ (Prime Minister’s Free Electricity Scheme); and Rs 5,500 crore to provide subsidies to 8.83 lakh agricultural pump consumers under the ‘Dr. Khubchand Baghel Farmer Electricity Assistance Scheme.’
He stated that, thanks to state government subsidies, the number of solar plants has increased rapidly, and consumers are now becoming not merely electricity consumers, but electricity producers as well.
The Chief Minister urged the residents of the state to avail themselves of the maximum benefits offered by the ‘PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ (PM-Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme).
He further remarked that the light of development is now reaching even the Naxal-affected regions, and under the ‘Niyad Nella Nar’ scheme, 158 villages have already been 100 per cent electrified.
