Jagdalpur, March 29, 2025: At least 16 Maoists were killed in a fierce gun battle with Maoists in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, a top police officer said.

On operational intelligence, security forces raided a forestry area of Kerlapal Jungle in Sukma district and in the fierce gun battle 16 Maoists were killed, Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
“We have so far recovered 16 bodies of the Maoists,” Sundarraj said, adding “the death toll may go up as exchange of fire is continuing”.

Two of the security forces have received bullet injuries in the encounter, the top police officer said adding both are out of danger.
The forces have also recovered rocket launchers, Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), huge amounts of explosives, besides AK-47, Self-Loaded Rifle (SLR), INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) and .303 Rifles among others, he said.
“Firing is still going on between the security forces comprising of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Para Military Forces (CRPF) and the Maoists since 8 AM,” Sundarraj said.
Amidst exchange of fire search operation is also going on, the police officer said adding once the operation ended more details will be emerged.
On March 20 last also the forces, in two separate incidents, had also shot dead 30 Maoists in the Bastar region of the state. In that incident one of the security forces was killed.
In Gangalur forest in Bijapur district 26 Maoists were killed whereas in Kanker district in a separate incident of counter four left rebels were killed on March 20 last.
In the previous month, on February 9 Security forces had shot dead at least 31 Maoists from the banned outfit Communist Party of India (Maoists) in an encounter in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Two of the security forces were also killed in that incident.
