Raipur, August 24, 2016: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu for approving two important railway lines connecting Chhattisgarh.
These two railway lines would benefit Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha among others, said the Chief Minister.
Not only passengers but also freight services would be improved with the new railway lines, which would be constructed with an estimated cost of over Rs 4500 crore, he said.
The Centre is planning to complete both the projects within five years and further boost industrialization, Singh said.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today given its approval for construction of third line between Rajnandgaon and Nagpur (Kalumna) and a fourth line between Jharsuguda and Bilaspur.
The 228.3 km long third line would be constructed in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh and Gondia, Bhandara and Nagpur districts in Maharashtra at an estimated cost of Rs.1,908.51 crore and the expected completion cost is of Rs.2,193.53 crore, they added.
Rajnandgaon-Kalumna line forms a part of Howrah-Mumbai trunk route serving freight and passenger traffic from Eastern and Southern regions to Northern and Western regions and vice versa over the country.
The fourth line is between Jharsuguda and Bilaspur and would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.1,973.46 crore and expected completion cost of Rs.2,298.31 crore, official sources said.
Jharsuguda district in Odisha and Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa and Bilaspur districts of Chhattisgarh will be covered by this 206 km long railway line and is expected to be completed in five years, they added.
Jharsuguda-Bilaspur route also forms a part of Howrah-Mumbai trunk route passing through major industrial areas.
This line plays an important role in transportation of freight and passenger traffic from Eastern and Southern regions to Northern and Western regions and vice versa.
