     New Delhi, November 28, 2024: AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, holding up a copy of the Constitution, took oath today as the Lok Sabha MP for Wayanad seat of Kerala.

     The 52-years old Priyanka took almost five years from starting her political journey to reach Lok Sabha by winning from Wayanad seat with a margin of  4,10,931 votes.

     Priyanka’s mother Sonia Gandhi is already an MP from Rajya Sabha and her brother Rahul Gandhi is the Lok Sabha MP.

     Holding a copy of the Indian Constitution she took oath. Rahul Gandhi was also seen displaying the copy of the Constitution at his public meetings.

     Dressed in a cream Kasavu saree from Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi rose to take oath amid cheers of ‘Jodo Jodo, Bharat Jodo’ from the Congress benches. She took oath with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, her mother and Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chief Sonia Gandhi, husband Robert Vadra, son Raihan and daughter Miraya watching from the galleries, reports media.

     Ravindra Chavan (Congress), who won the Nanded bypoll of Maharashtra also took oath in Marathi. The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of his father Vasantrao Chavan recently.

New Parliament Building

     Priyanka got into active politics in 2019 and subsequently was appointed Congress General Secretary. Five years later, Priyanka begins her journey as an elected representative of the people.

     Born on January 12, 1972, Priyanka attended New Delhi’s Modern School and the Convent of Jesus and Mary. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, and also has a master’s degree in Buddhist studies.

     Congress workers had been waiting for a longer period of her entry into Parliament and are hoping she will provide the booster shot the party needs in its difficult phase at the hustings going forward.
