Raipur, February 20, 2024: BJP candidate Devendra Pratap Singh was today declared elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from the lone seat from Chhattisgarh.
“Since Devendra Pratap Singh was the only candidate, who had filed his nominations, he was today declared unopposed,” Assembly sources told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
Congress had not fielded any candidate for the lone seat, which will be filled following the completion of the tenure of Saroj Pandey of BJP.

Assembly Secretary Dinesh Sharma handed over him the certificate of being elected as the Rajya Sabha member.
After he is declared elected, Devendra Pratap Singh met the Speaker Dr Raman Singh at his chamber and sought his blessings.

Surprising to many, BJP central leadership had on February 11, 2024 picked up a lesser known Devendra Pratap Singh as nominee for the Rajya Sabha to replace high profile Saroj Pandey, whose tenure will be over by April 2, 2024.
Kumar Devendra Pratap Singh, who lives in Lailunga of Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh, is the grandson of Raigarh King Chakradhar Singh, BJP sources said.
Singh was a Zilla Panchayat member from Lailunga and member of Railway Hindi Advisory committee of the Rail Ministry, they said.
