      Raigarh, April 16, 2013: A local court in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh has awarded capital punishment to a “witch doctor” for sacrificing a child to earn good fortune, police said today.

     A local court in Raigarh district yesterday convicted a witch doctor of killing an eleven year old boy for good fortune and ordered him hang to death, Raigarh District Superintendant of Police Rahul Bhagat told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.

     The 32-year old Dilip Rathia was convicted on charges of murder, hiding evidencesand giving falseinformation to screen the offence, Bhagat said.

     It was a blind case, which was not only cracked, but also in a speedy trial, capital punishment was awarded to the accused, Additional SP Raigarh Praful Thakur said.

     Giving details of the case, Thakur said a decomposed headless skeleton of a child was recovered in Barpali village of Punjipatra area and during DNA and other scientific tests it was confirmed the body of an eleven year old boy Praveen, who went missing on February 06, 2012 from a village fair in tribal dominated Gharghoda area of the same Raigarh district.

     On a tipoff, police raided the house of a person, who was practicing witch craft and from his premises the head of the boy was also recovered, said Thakur.

      “The exhumed skeleton and DNA and other forensic tests confirmed that was of the boy,” he said.

     “With scientific and other evidences it was proved that the man had beheaded the boy and his head was offered to the Goddess to have a better fortune,” Thakur said.

     “Taking all the evidences into account, a local Sessions court in Raigarh yesterday convicted Rathia of the killing and other charges and awarded him death sentence,” the police officer said.
