Raipur, January 15, 2009: AICC has appointed Raj Kumari Diwan as the Youth Congress President for Chhattisgarh, party sources said today.
Diwan would take charge tomorrow as a full time President in a formal function attended by Indian Youth Congress General Secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh Dr Chayanika Uniyal in the Congress Bhawan here, they said.
Not only as a tribal, but also as a women Diwan would empower the party in many ways and after the AICC President Sonia Gandhi and President Pratibha Patil, the post of state Youth Congress President going to a woman would definitely strengthen the society and the organisation, several Congress leaders said here.
Diwan was made the Acting President of the state Youth Congress on December 19, last after the party high command removed Yogesh Tiwari for demonstrating before the central observer demanding appointment of Marwahi MLA Ajit Jogi as the Leader of Opposition of Chhattisgarh Assembly.
Tiwari is a staunch supporter of Jogi, who contested from Raipur South seat in November assembly election and defeated from Brijmohan Agrawal of BJP by a margin of 24,939 votes.
