Raipur January 3, 2023: villagers in the tribal district of Narayanpur in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh have clashed with police after they hit the street opposing alleged religious conversion attempt on tribals.
District superintendent of police Narayanpur Sadananda Kumar sustained head injuries in stone throwing incident, when police tried to stop a mob yesterday from damaging properties.
Alleging that a group of people from another religious group were forcing tribal for conversion, the mob attacked a religious place belonging to a particular community and damaged properties.
When police tried to stop a mob, which were laced with traditional weapons, they attacked the police forces, in which the SP Narayanpur, a police officer and couple of other members from the forces were injured.
The situation is still tense and additional forces have been deployed in all the sensitive places, official sources said.
Inspector General of Bastar range Sundarraj P has rushed to the spot to bring in the situation under control.
Meanwhile, ruling Congress has termed the Narayanpur incident as unfortunate and blamed the BJP and the RSS for the incident.
Congress demanded stern actions against the accused involved in the incident.
Opposition BJP today demanded complete halt to the religious conversions in the state.
BJP leaders also alleged Congress party was giving protection to elements, which are behind alleged conversion in the state.
