Raipur, April 03, 2024: At least 13 Maoists were killed in a fierce gun-battle with security forces in Bijapur forest of Chhattisgarh, a top police officer said today.
“13 Maoists were killed in a gun battle in the Korcholi forest of Bijapur district,” Inspector General of Police of Bastar range P Sunder Raj told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
Bodies have not yet been identified, the IGP said adding forces are inside the forest conducting intensive search operation to find out more dead or injured Maoists.
The exchange of fire continued for about 14 hours since yesterday morning and after the search operation security forces have recovered bodies of 13 Maoists, including three female, IG Sunder Raj said.
Highly sophisticated weapons like Light Machine Gun (LMG) and Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGL) and automatic weapons, explosives and ammunitions have also been recovered, he said.
The incident took place in Korcholi forest under Gangalur police station of Bijapur district in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
Due to specific intelligence of a gathering of Maoists in the Korcholi forest, a joint operation of the state and Central para military forces was carried out, he said.
The recovery of the LMG indicated presence of top Maoist commanders, Police sources said.
The encounter was with the Company number two of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), they said.
