Sarguja, April 8, 2014: At least 15 members of a marriage party were killed today on a road accident in Sarguja district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
“Seven women and eight male were killed today in a road accident near Luchki village” Sarguja district Superintendent of Police P Sundarraj said.
“In that accident 18 people have also been injured, who are rushed to Ambikapur hospital for treatment,” he said.
Some of the deceased are close relatives, the Police officer said adding the mishap occurred near Luchki Ghat.
“All 32 people are members of a marriage party, who were proceeding from Sitapur village to Pratappur village when their vehicle rammed into a road side tree and turned turtle,” Sundarraj said.
“How the accident occurred is being investigated, but the accident was so severe that 15 people have been killed and 17 are injured, many of them seriously,” he said.
The vehicle, which met with an accident, was a pick up vehicle.
Due to lack of proper passenger transportation system, in most part of the rural areas goods transportation vehicle are used for carrying passengers, ignoring the safety rules.
Untrained drivers, bad road conditions and disrespect to safety rules are the result of such major accidents being reported from many parts of the state every day.
