Raipur, June 29, 2010: Fifteen Police personnel were killed and five injured today in an ambush of the Maoists in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
“Several armed Maoists today ambushed and killed 15 security personnel, mostly CRPF and five security men are injured,” Chief of the Chhattisgarh Anti-Maoists Operation Ramniwas told Chhattisgarhtopnews.Com here.
The incident took place in Dhodai area, about 18 km from the district headquarters Narayanpur and 310 km from Raipur.
The injured are being air lifted to Jagdalpur for treatment, he said.
Senior CRPF and Chhattisgarh police officials said the Maoists ambushed the police party when it was on a road opening operation in the den of Maoists, close to Abujhmad area in Narayanpur district.
Over 100 armed Maoists laid an ambush and opened indiscriminate firing and even after trapped in the ambush the police party gave a matching fire and in that incident 15 security forces were killed on the spot and some of the injured are evacuated by helicopter for further treatment, police officials said.
Additional forces had been rushed to rescue the police party, they said.
There were 65 policemen, who were in the Road Opening Operation, IG Special Intelligence Branch of Chhattisgarh Rajesh Mishra said adding more forces have been rushed to the spot.
