Raipur, May 5, 2016: At least 16 people were killed and 36 injured, many of them seriously, after a luxury passenger bus fell from a river bridge in Chhattisgarh, police official said today.
“A speedy passenger bus fell from a bridge on the bed of a rivulet killing 16 people, including a woman,” Balrampur district Police chief Sadanand Kumar told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
“While negotiating a blind curve, the driver lost control of the bus after seeing a motor bike in front of it and crushing the railing of the bridge fell on the rivulet,” Kumar said.
“The lone rider of the bike and 15 passengers of the bus were killed in the incident,” said the senior most police officer of the remote district.
The incident took place last night at Daldhowa ghat of Balrampur district in Chhattisgarh, about 385 kilometre north of the state capital Raipur.
The luxury passenger bus was plying between Garhwa of neighbouring Jharkhand state to Raipur of Chhattisgarh.
“So far 14 seriously injured passengers have been airlifted to Raipur for intensive care treatment,” the police officer said.
“However, 22 passengers are still undergoing treatment at Balrampur district hospital with multiple injuries,” he said.
