Raipur, October 24, 2025: The enthusiasm among the people for the Bastar Olympics, which begins on October 25th this year, can be gauged from the fact that so far, 3,91,289 athletes from 7 districts of the Bastar division have registered.
Official sources stated that of these 3,91,289 athletes, 163,668 are male and 227,621 are female.
This number not only reflects the growing enthusiasm of Bastar’s youth for sports, but also proves that sports have now become a symbol of a new social consciousness and equal participation in Bastar.
The “Bastar Olympics 2025” is being organized to foster the energy, enthusiasm, and talent of the youth in the tribal-dominated Bastar division of Chhattisgarh.
This event, held under the joint auspices of the Police Department and the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, will establish a new identity for Bastar in the state’s silver jubilee year.
An initiative to bring Bastar’s sporting talent to the national stage
The primary objective of this event is to connect Bastar’s youth with the mainstream and recognize their inherent sporting talent. This initiative will not only be a sporting event but also a bridge of trust and dialogue between the government and the public.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stated in his “Mann Ki Baat” programme, the Bastar Olympics is not just a sporting event; it is a platform where development and sports converge, where our youth are honing their talents and building a new India.
This model is being seen across the country as a unique initiative of “peace and trust through sports.”
The competition includes sports such as athletics, archery, football, badminton, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, karate, weightlifting, and hockey. It will not only promote modern sports but also provide a platform for players with local traditions.
In addition to the junior (14-17 years) and senior categories, the Bastar Olympics also includes special category participants—persons disabled by Naxalite violence and surrendered Naxalites. This initiative is a historic step towards rehabilitation, revitalization, and social integration through sports.
The competitions are being held at three levels—block, district, and divisional levels. The block-level competition will begin on October 25, the district-level competition will begin on November 5, and the divisional level competition will begin on November 24. Winners at the district and divisional levels will receive cash prizes, medals, trophies, and shields. The cash amount will be deposited into the players’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The divisional-level winners will be promoted as “Bastar Youth Icons.” This ‘Sports for Peace’ model will symbolize a new social consciousness in Bastar.
The wild buffalo and the hill myna have been chosen as mascots for the ‘Bastar Olympics 2025’, symbolizing Bastar’s vibrancy and community strength. This event will be a celebration not only of sports, but also of Bastar’s culture, harmony, and a new era of development.
