     Raipur, August 01, 2014: At least five workers were killed today in a huge explosion in Navbharat Fuse explosive factory at Abhanpur area in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

     “At least five workers were killed in a huge explosion in an explosive factory in Abhanpur area,” Raipur IG Gurjinder Pal Singh said.

     “The explosion was so powerful that the entire cemented building was totally damaged and the body were blown to pieces,” Singh said.

     The incident took place in Abhanpur area, about 30 kilometre from capital Raipur, at about 1.50 AM, he said.

     There were seven workers on duty and two of them had gone out from the factory building when the explosion took place, the police officer said.

      “Factory supervisor has reported to police that five workers are killed in that incident and the debris are being searched to check the exact number of deaths,” he said.

       The entire factory has been raged from the ground due to the impact of the blast and bodies have been scattered, Singh said adding police has cordoned off the area and carrying out intensive search of the area. 

      “The factory was manufacturing detonator, fuse, explosion cord and many other explosive materials and explosive experts are on the spot to investigate, what was the material responsible for the blast,” the Inspector General of Police said.

     The factory was supplying explosive materials to mines in mineral rich Chhattisgarh and adjoining states.
