Raipur, July 05, 2024: Nine people were killed, after suspected to be inhaling poisonous gas, as they entered wells in two separate incidents in Sakti and Korba districts of Chhattisgarh.
In Kikirda village under Birra area of Sakti district one person entered the well to remove some wooden materials. Seeing him not coming out from the well for a longer period one after another 4 others also went inside the well and subsequently died inside the well.
Among the dead are father, his two sons and two others.
It is suspected that since the old well was unused for a longer period these five people might have inhaled suspected poisonous gas inside the well, official sources said.
In another incident, father, daughter and two others were killed after they entered a well in Korba district.
In Jurali village of Katghora area of Korba district one Jahru fell in the well and to save him his daughter jumped into the well. Two other also jumped in for their rescue. But all four people of the family died after entering the well.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed deep sorrow over the death of 9 villagers in two separate incident.
The Chief Minister also announced Rs 9 lakh rupees to each of the bereaved families.
