Raipur, February 24, 2026: Two of the five Rajya Sabha seats from Chhattisgarh will fall vacant on April 9, 2026 and to fill that vacancies election will be held on March 16, official sources said today.
Elections will be held for these seats due to the completion of the terms of Congress Rajya Sabha members Kavi Tejpal Singh (KTS) Tulsi and Phulo Devi Netam.
The Election Commission of India issued a press note on February 18, announcing the Rajya Sabha biennial election schedule for these vacant seats.
According to the schedule released by the Election Commission, the notification will be issued on February 26. The last date for filing nominations is March 5, while scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on March 6.
According to the schedule released, candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until March 9. Voting will be held on Monday, March 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Counting of votes will begin at 5:00 p.m. on the same day.
Nomination papers can be submitted before the Returning Officer, Secretary, Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, at the designated place in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly building from February 26 to March 5, 2026 (except on public holidays) from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
A total of 90 MLAs from the state will exercise their voting rights in the Rajya Sabha elections. As per the current Assembly composition, 54 MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party, 35 from the Indian National Congress, and 1 MLA from the Gondwana Ganatantra Party will participate in the voting.
Voting will be conducted through secret ballot.
