New Delhi, July 14, 2010: In a major development, Chhattisgarh Government today got the approval for recruitment of 3000 Special Police officers or SPOs in the naxal affected areas of the state.
In the high level meeting on naxalism, chaired by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at New Delhi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh raised several issues relating to development and strengthening of police forces in naxal hit areas of the state.
On the demand of the Chief Minister, the state got the approval to recruit 3000 SPOs in the naxal affected areas, officials said.
Also for strengthening of the 65 police stations of the state, Rs 130 crore had also been sanctioned, so that the police stations would get Rs 2 crore each, they said.
In that meeting the Chief Minister urged the Centre to conduct a joint survey of the so called forest land, where even there was not a single bush and the state government be allowed in those areas to build schools and hospitals.
The meeting also discussed the Rs 4553 crore plan of the Chhattisgarh Government for the overall development of the naxal affected areas of the state.
