Bhilai, November 7, 2008: Bhilai Steel Plant has achieved a new record in converter lining life, which is the best in any SAIL or any top blown converters in the country.
BSP’s Converter-A in Steel Melting Shop-II has achieved a refractory lining life of 10,000 heats on October 30, last in A-shift and is still running, which is the best in all the SAIL plants and the highest converter lining life recorded in any top blown converter in the country, a BSP spokesman said here today.
The previous record of converter lining life, also in Converter-A was 6316 heats achieved in June 2007.
This increase in lining life would go a long way towards improving the production of steel besides help in reducing costs.
The SMS-II shop was commissioned on July 29, 1984. The acquisition of the latest modern steel making equipments such as VAD, Ladle Furnace, RH Degasser and De-sulphurisation units has helped the shop in fulfilling the demands of the customers, both in terms of quality and quantity.
SMS-II specialises in production of Rail Steel with less than 1.5 ppm (parts per million) Hydrogen and low Sulphur steels like API and BS Grades.
