Ambikapur, September 03, 2016: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today inaugurated the sixth government medical college of Chhattisgarh here at the Sarguja district headquarters Ambikapur.
The Ambikapur Medical College was inaugurated in a function, presided over by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, in the presence of several state ministers, leader of Opposition T S Singhdeo and officials.
With an investment of Rs 400 crore an all facility medical college building would be constructed, said Nadda adding this would serve the local tribals immensely.
The Chief Minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister Nadda for the approval of the Ambikapur Medical College.
The Medical Council of India has approved 100 seats of MBBS for the Ambikapur medical college, the Chief Minister said adding with that the total number of MBBS seats in Chhattisgarh state have increased to 800.
Besides the Jawaharlal Medical College Raipur and Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences at Bilaspur, medical colleges are functioning at Jagdalpur Raigarh and Rajnandgaon.
Union Health Minister also said, on the request of the state government, the Centre has approved Rs 120 crore for setting up of a National Cancer Hospital at Bilaspur and for a super specialty hospital at Jagdalpur another Rs 200 crore have been sanctioned.
