Raipur, June 22, 2024: CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) was today entrusted the investigation into the large scale irregularities in NEET under graduate examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), a Central government agency.
“For transparency on the conduct of the examination process the Ministry of Education, government of India after a review has decided to entrust the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for comprehensive investigation,” a Government release said today.
National Testing Agency (NTA) had conducted NEET (UG) examination on May 5, 2024 in OMR (pen and paper) mode.
Over 24 lakh students had appeared in the NEET (UG) examinations. But when the result was out on June 4, 2024, it was found that 67 students had got 720 out of 720 and over 1500 students had been given grace marks. Why and how it was happened, was not elaborated by the NTA or the Government of India.
Meanwhile, official sources said, certain cases of alleged irregularities, cheating, impersonation, malpractices have been reported, because of which CBI was handed over the matter for detailed investigation.
Central Government has also enacted the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024 to prevent unfair means in the public examinations and to provide for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto, official sources said.
Government is committed to ensure the sanctity of examinations and protect the interest of students. Any individual or organisation found to be involved will face strictest action, the sources said.
