Raipur, December 25, 2008: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today pulled up the Congress party and asked why the main opposition was engaged in opposing the works of its party government at the Centre.
In a special interview to ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com Singh said the state government was purchasing paddy as the representative of the Central government and also his government was determined to give Rs 270 as bonus to the farmers.
BJP had announced to give Rs 270 per quintal as bonus during election and that was already decided in the first ever cabinet meeting of the new government, Singh said.
For giving bonus to the farmers Rs 900 crore is required and it is a big scheme directly related to the people of the state as 80 per cent of the population is dependent on agriculture in the state, he said.
Since it had been decided to give bonus of Rs 270 to the farmers the Congress at no point of time should oppose that and it was unnecessary also to create confusion among the people on that issue, he said questioning the decision of Congress to go for strike on the bonus issue.
Rather the Congress should pressurise the Centre to make Rs 1000 as the minimum support price for the paddy and make similar policy to decide the price of paddy and wheat annually, he said.
