Korba, January 28, 2009: Industrial district of Korba is the highest contributor to the Chhattisgarh exchequer on mining revenue and it could soon provide Rs 1000 crore per annum, a top official said today.
The revenue target of Chhattisgarh on mining for this fiscal is Rs 1129 crore and Korba is contributing 56 per cent or Rs 624 crore this fiscal, Deputy Director Mines in Korba Mahipal Singh Kanwar told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com here today.
Looking into the potential of Korba and the collection figure, it could reach Rs 1000 crore soon as more mines are also being opened in the district, which is rich in coal among other major minerals.
In fact Korba was given the target of Rs 622 crore in the beginning of this fiscal in April but looking into the revenue collection of about 80 per cent or Rs 500 crore before the year to go for two more months, the state government had increased that to Rs 624 crore in a fresh revision.
“We can easily reach the new target of revenue collection and are proceeding systematically,” Kanwar said.
South Eastern Coalfield Limited is one of the major players in the mining sector in Korba district, which has coal mines in Gebra, Dipika, Kushmunda, Lakshman, Manikpur, Rajgamar, Surakachar, Balgi, Banki, Dhelbadihi, Singhali and Bagdeba.
SECL plans a few more mines, including South North Madanpur and Nakia and once all those are operational the mines revenue from Korba would reach Rs 1000 crore, officials said.
