Raipur, December 20, 2025: Preparation has been started in Chhattisgarh for the Census of India-2027, which is to be conducted entirely digitally in two phases.

Officials stated that accurate georeferencing of the geographical location of cities and villages is crucial for the census to ensure that no settlement area is missed or that there is no overlap between different areas.

Officials involved in the census work explained that the accuracy of the boundaries and location of villages and cities in the charge maps used for the census is the responsibility of the concerned charge officer.  Therefore, the charge map is certified and verified by the charge officer.

They further explained that to ensure the accuracy of the boundaries of villages and cities for the upcoming Census 2027, the Census Directorate will provide tehsil-wise shape files in soft copy.

These files will depict each revenue village and city within the tehsil as per the maps previously certified and verified by the concerned charge officer.

Officials stated that the shape file must be thoroughly checked by the concerned tehsil office. If any discrepancies are found, the village boundaries should be corrected using ‘Google Earth Pro’ as needed, and the modified shape file should be sent to the Census Directorate.

During the verification process, it should also be ensured that all revenue villages and cities located within the tehsil are included in the map.

Preparations for Census 2027 have also begun in all districts of Chhattisgarh. Training is being conducted for census officers and revenue officers regarding the accurate georeferencing of the geographical boundaries and locations of villages.

Officials are being instructed to take the training seriously and obtain necessary information from the trainers regarding potential problems that may arise during the census.

Census officials are providing necessary technical information to the officers regarding the use of ‘Google Earth Pro’ through PPT presentations. Technical experts are providing detailed information about the shape files and maps of the district’s rural and urban areas through a PowerPoint presentation, and officials from the Census Directorate are also addressing the doubts of the census charge officers.
