From survey to conservation – new momentum to manuscript campaign in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, 11 April 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today called upon the people of the state to actively participate in the preservation of Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural heritage and ancient knowledge tradition.

Sai said that our manuscripts are living evidence of our civilisation, culture and knowledge, which is our shared responsibility to preserve and pass on to future generations.

Chief Minister Sai said that the Gyan Bharat Rashtriya Manuscript Survey Abhiyan launched by the Central Government is a visionary and important initiative in this direction. The campaign is working to survey the ancient manuscripts available across the country and make them safe, protected and accessible through digital medium.

He appealed to the citizens of the state that if they have any ancient manuscript, handwritten texts or palm leaves safe with them, then they should enter their details on the Gyan Bharatam mobile app and become a part of this national campaign.
The Chief Minister said that this small effort of the citizens will prove to be a big contribution in preserving our cultural identity.

Chief Minister Sai expressed confidence that through public participation, the rich knowledge tradition of Chhattisgarh will get a new identity and this heritage will be safely accessible to the coming generations. He called upon the people of the state to participate in this cultural campaign by saving their roots and carry forward this priceless heritage of knowledge with pride.

It is noteworthy that the central government has launched the “Gyan Bharatam National Manuscript Survey Campaign” as an important initiative, the aim of which is to survey the manuscripts available in the state and deliver them to future generations through a safe, preserved and digital medium. The state of Chhattisgarh is also participating regularly in this nationwide campaign started from March 2026.

Out of 33 districts of Chhattisgarh, district level committee has been constituted and nodal officer has been appointed in 26 districts, formation / appointment is being carried out in the remaining 07 districts. By organising district level committee meetings in the districts, manuscript collectors/institutions are being identified, and village/region-wise surveyors are being appointed. The trainers are being trained at the district level by the Nodal Department (Culture Department) in association with the regional conveners of Gyan Bharatam.

Information about 148 manuscripts in Chhattisgarh was received from the Government of India. At present, the work of manuscript survey has started in 06 districts out of 33 districts of Chhattisgarh and so far 4191 manuscripts have been surveyed through the Gyan Bharatam app.
