Raipur, June 21, 2026: A historic cultural journey is being organized from Chhattisgarh to connect with Somnath Dham, a symbol of Indian culture, faith, and national pride.
As part of the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ (Somnath Pride Festival), the “Somnath Swabhiman Cultural Yatra,” scheduled from June 22 to June 26, 2026, will see 1,000 distinguished individuals from the state travel to Somnath Dham in Gujarat via a special train.

Officials stated that the journey will be flagged off at 11:00 AM on June 22 from Raipur Railway Station. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai will attend the event as the chief guest, while Rajesh Agrawal, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trusts & Endowments, will preside over the programme.
Additionally, public representatives from Raipur, including Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and the Mayor, along with numerous prominent citizens, will participate in the ceremony.
The ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ symbolizes the cultural consciousness and glorious heritage of India, a legacy that has preserved its faith and identity intact despite a thousand years of challenges. To mark this historic occasion, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is organizing various programmes across the country.
This cultural journey from Chhattisgarh is a significant part of that national campaign, which aims to connect the new generation with India’s cultural roots, spiritual heritage, and national pride.
A unique feature of this journey is the participation of distinguished individuals selected from various districts of the state, including artists, litterateurs, cultural activists, social workers, and public representatives who have been honoured with Padma awards and other national or international accolades.
The journey will also showcase Chhattisgarh’s folk culture, traditions, and cultural diversity at the national level. Participants will carry sacred soil and water from rivers of their respective regions to Somnath, symbolizing India’s cultural unity, spiritual harmony, and national integrity.
During the journey, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Somnath Temple and engage in various cultural and religious activities. Key highlights of the programme will include temple visits, cultural performances, art tours, and visits to sites of historical and religious significance. This will not only provide participants with an opportunity to gain firsthand insight into India’s glorious cultural heritage but will also foster dialogue and exchange among cultural representatives from various states.
According to the Department of Culture, extensive preparations are underway for the journey. Procedures regarding health check-ups, travel arrangements, and the processing of necessary documents for participants selected from all districts are being completed. Departmental officials have been assigned responsibilities to ensure the journey is well-organized and safe, utilizing a special train.
The Somnath Swabhiman Cultural Yatra is not merely a religious pilgrimage; it is a vibrant celebration of India’s cultural consciousness, glorious history, and national unity.
Originating from Chhattisgarh, this journey will bring fresh recognition to the state’s rich folk traditions, art, literature, and spiritual heritage on a national platform.
