New Delhi, August 05, 2026: The Central Government has approved a Rs 496.66 crore scheme for Modernisation of Forensic Capacities, under which Mobile Forensic Vans (MFVs) to be provided to all districts and State Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) across the country.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, said these vans are equipped with modern forensic equipment to facilitate scientific examination of crime scenes and collection of evidence.
The facilities available in the MFVs include crime scene documentation, photography/videography, collections of biological and trace evidence, fingerprint development and lifting, preliminary examination of physical evidence, secure preservation of exhibits, and digital documentation, among other essential forensic tools.
So far, 619 Mobile Forensic Vans have been allocated to various States across the country, he said adding operational costs including recruitment of manpower is to be borne by the respective State/Union Territories.
