New Delhi/Raipur, March 04, 2011: Veteran Congress leader and two time Chief Minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh Arjun Singh passed away today at about 6.15 PM at New Delhi.
Former Punjab Governor, Singh (81) was admitted to the AIIMS at New Delhi couple of days ago with chest pain and other health problems and had a cardiac arrest at around 6.15 PM and breathe his last, sources said.
Chhattisgarh has declared a three day state mourning in respect of the veteran Congress leader, whose last important position was Union HRD Minister in the previous government.
Both Governor Shekhar Dutt and Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh have expressed their deep condolences over the death of Arjun Singh, who had fought the Kharsia by-poll, now under Chhattisgarh, while officiating as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and defeated Dillip Singh Ju Deo.
