Raipur, November 24, 2022: Chhattisgarh Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, today approved a draft proposal for giving reservation to the scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and other backward classes in the state.

The cabinet approved the proposed draft bill for reservation quota for different communities for job and education in the state, official sources said.

Now the draft bill would be tabled in the next month’s winter session of the state assembly.

The High Court had dismissed the reservation policy of the state government to give tribals 32 per cent and that had been reduced to 20 per cent, which created a political upheaval in the state with ruling Congress and main Opposition BJP accusing each other of responsible for the situation.

Meanwhile, the Quantifiable Data Commission, which was set up to identify the size of OBC population in the state, has also submitted its report and that was discussed in the cabinet before tabling them in the assembly.

The Winter session of the state assembly has been convened on December one and two, during which the Bhupesh government is planning to bring in a couple of financial and legislative bills and the cabinet discussed that also, the sources said.
