     Raipur, February 7, 2009: After large scale complaints of irregularities in centrally sponsored Rural Development works, a high level team today reviewed the works in Chhattisgarh.

     Led by Rural Development Joint Secretary Jugal Kishore Mahapatra the central team today reviewed the works of various centrally sponsored projects after visiting some scam hit districts.

      The team visited the Kanker district, which was in news last year for crore of rupees of misappropriation of funds meant for National Employment Guarantee Scheme, for which the then district collector was shifted and action were initiated against several officials.

     The team also visited some areas of Rajnandgaon and Raipur districts.

     In the review meeting with Finance, Home, PWD and Health secretaries, the central team also asked the Chhattisgarh government to fill the vacancies of essential services in interior or cut off areas, officials said.

     The team also expressed its unhappiness over the lack of sufficient employment opportunities in the state and asked the state to create more employment opportunities in the rural sector.

     In the last couple of years several districts were on news for large scale irregularities in National Employment Guarantee Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and many others, including in Dhamtari, Kanker, Raipur and other districts.
