Raipur, March 22, 2023: Chhattisgarh Assembly today unanimously passed the Media Persons Protection Bill 2023.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel later talking to press said it was a historic day for the state as the Congress party had promised in its election manifesto to have such a law in 2018 to give protection to the media persons.
This will be beneficial to all those media persons who are putting their life at risk every day to perform their duties, Baghel said.
A committee will be formed to look into allegations of government employees misbehaving with the media persons.
The committee will be of 6 members with participation from both the media and officials to issue directions or punish the violators.
There will also be provision for appeal if one is not happy with the decision of the committee.
For false complaint also there is provision for punishment, officials said.
