     Raipur, September 1, 2009: Centre today asked Chhattisgarh to complete distribution of forest land rights to the tribals before December 2009.

     After reviewing the progress in distribution of lands to tribals and other issues relating to tribals, flanked by Tribal Development Minister Kedar Kashyap and Forest Minister Vikram Usendi, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Kantilal Bhuria today told reporters that the state government has been asked to complete the works of distribution of land deeds to forest dwellers well in advance.

     The union Minister reviewed the progress in land distribution under the Scheduled Tribes and Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2007, in which the state informed him that about 40 per cent of the target has been completed.

     The state should take effective steps to complete the process before December 31, this year, he said. The state has a target of 4.48 lakh beneficiaries under the scheme.

     Bhuria also praised the state government for constructing a youth hostel for the tribal youth of the state at New Delhi and said other states should also follow that.
