Raipur, June 16, 2009: The excise revenue has touched nearly Rs 1000 crore in Chhattisgarh, where in the last couple of years liquor shops have outsmart all other business in many parts of the state.
A total of Rs 971.28 crore revenue was collected from Excise Department in the last financial year from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009, a state government document said.
The excise products were so much available and sold in the market that the sale had created a record, surpassing the targetted figure.
The expected target of revenue was Rs 956.69 crore, where as the actual collection surpassed that and reached Rs 971.28 crore, the Department said.
Of that, Excise products had expected to give a revenue of Rs 950 crore, when the actual collection was Rs 964.95 crore.
However, during that period collection of Entertainment Tax was seen a negative trend and failed to reach the target. The Government had fixed the target for Entertainment Tax as Rs 6.69 crore where as the actual collection was Rs 6.33 crore, they said, without giving any reason for the downfall in revenue on this head.
