Raigarh, December 20, 2009: Despite tall claims, the Congress failed to even put up candidates in all the wards of the Jashpur District Headquarters of Chhattisgarh in the municipal election.
Jashpur Nagar Municipal Corporation has 18 wards and the main Opposition Congress could not able to put up candidates in all the wards and more humiliating for them five of the BJP leaders were declared unopposed for the ongoing urban local body election.
When contacted the PCC, led by President Dhanendra Sahu, failed to give any satisfactory answer why the century old party was facing such a humiliating situation in Jashpur district, located in North of Chhattisgarh.
District Election Officer S K Jaiswal said in five of the wards since BJP candidates had only filed their nominations they were declared unopposed.
Deputy Opposition Leader Ram Pukar Singh of Congress said the party could only release the names of 14 candidates for the 18 members council. When two of them did not file their nominations, four others had withdrawn their papers.
