Korba, March 24, 2011: A fresh controversy has been erupted in the industrial town of Korba after a farmer committed suicide allegedly in the Tehsil office over acquire of his land for industry.
Various media reports suggested that Kartik Ram Ratre of Pahanda village under Korba Tehsil had consumed poison on March 17 and died the same day. He was said to be disturbed over acquire of his land for setting up of a power plant by a private company and despite acquiring the land he was not paid any compensation.
In an unsigned communication, the district administration claimed Kartik Ram had not committed suicide in the Korba Tehsil office.
How and where he committed suicide was being probed by the Police, the local civil administration said.
Rather the administration had expressed the apprehension that the family members might have put pressure on Kartik Ram for early withdrawal of compensation money, because of which he might have committed suicide.
He had submitted an application to the administration on the same March 17, saying his land had been acquired for Lanko Power plant at Patadhi in Korba district, they said.
