Raipur, January 18, 2012: It seems the BJP government in Chhattisgarh has hurriedly declared nine districts.
Political observers have started questioning the preparedness of the state government on the issue as they questioned the move to change the name of the districts even after a fortnight for their inception and functioning.
After last moment change in the name of Balrampur district to Balrampur-Ramanujganj, Balodabazar district was renamed in the same fashioned, taking many as surprise.
Formally inaugurating the new district, that is carved out from Raipur, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today told a function at Balodabazar that the new district would be known as Balodabazar-Bhatapara, named after two important places of the new revenue unit.
With a population of 10.61 lakh, the new district is spread over 3,595 sq km area.
It has 970 villages, 499 gram panchayats and nine urban local bodies.
Balodabazar was declared a tehsil by Britishers about 107 years ago.
