Raipur, December 8, 2008: Raman Singh today proved he was not only the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh but also a new face of BJP, who is even more popular than the top BJP leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani.
The final tally is 50 BJP, 38 Congress and two BSP in the 90 member state assembly.
Similarly the voting percentage is BJP 40.33 per cent where as Congress had to be satisfied with 38.63 per cent. BSP is in third position with 6.11 per cent votes and the Independent had got 13.03 per cent votes and the rest shared by others.
The result has proved Doctor Saheb is more popular in the state than any prominent icons of the ruling BJP.
In the far off areas of the state also the BJP posters were carrying the photograph of Dr Raman only and perhaps for the first time the photo of other top BJP leaders were missing which was a clear indication Raman has become the new mascot of the BJP at least in Chhattisgarh.
There was also heavy demand from all segments for Raman Singh to conduct poll meeting which indicated his pro-poor image among the voters.
On the other hand the losing of election of all the top four Congress leaders the PCC President Dhanendra Sahu, Acting President Satya Narayan Sharma, Leader of Opposition Mahendra Karma and Deputy Opposition Leader Bhupesh Baghel has forced the main opposition to go for a detailed review why it was losing successively in Chhattisgarh.
