Raipur, February 14, 2009: If Chhattisgarh Assembly was trying to create history by even having sitting on Saturday, it was a history of sort on another matter as the entire media today preferred to stay away from the house reporting on its issue.
The media was aggrieved on the issue that police was not only abusive against them but also started harassing them on many occasions and on Friday when some of the members from the community were returning from the Assembly after completing their assignment, they were not only stopped to give passage to a minister but also their vehicle was fined.
The Congress members raised the issue in the state Assembly and the Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik also asked the Treasury bench to look into the matter.
However, the Government was unmoved on the demand of the media to take action against the police officers, who fined the media vehicle.
Finally the media preferred to stay away from the house proceeding and the Opposition bench also expressed their solidarity with the media and boycotted the house proceeding for the day.
Sources said the media persons have also called for a meeting on Monday to take their fresh stand on the issue.
