Raipur, May 30, 2024: Intense heat wave condition has gripped many parts of India with mercury trying to touch 50 degree Celsius in many states of India.
Delhi reported 52.9 degree Celsius yesterday forcing the authority to saying they are re-checking the sensor machine to confirm the exact figure.
Raigarh was the hottest place in Chhattisgarh yesterday with the highest temperature of 46.7 degree, Weathermen said today adding heat wave conditions will prevail in places under the Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur division of Chhattisgarh.
Raipur has registered a maximum temperature of 45.7 degree followed by Durg with 45.5. Bilaspur with 45.4, Ambikapur with 44.2 degree yesterday, the IMD sources said today.
Meanwhile, many cities in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab besides Delhi reported temperature above 45 degree as large parts of northern, central and east India remained in the grip of a sweltering heat wave condition.
Odisha continued to reel under intense heat wave conditions as Balangir, the city close to Chhattisgarh border in western part of Odisha, recorded 46.3 degrees yesterday, making it the hottest place in the state. Sonepur followed with a temperature of 46.2 degree, while Titlagarh and Jharsuguda logged 46 degrees Celsius, IMD sources said.
In the city of Sambalpur mercury touched 45.6 degrees, Boudh (45.3) and Hirakud (45.1).
Meanwhile, Garhwa city of Jharkhand also sizzled at a record 48 Deg C, and the capital city of Ranchi at 42.2, sources said.
An alert for severe heat wave conditions has been issued for Palamu, Garhwa, and Chatra in Jharkhand for today.
