Raipur, August 2, 2010: BJP Leader Narayan Prasad Chandel today defeated Dharamjeet Singh of Congress to become the Deputy Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
Bahujan Samaj Party had decided to go with the BJP during the election, because of which Chandel got 50 votes, where as Singh secured 39 votes.
Former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey proposed the name of Singh, which was seconded by Agni Chandrakar and Nand Kumar Patel of Congress.
On the other hand, Chief minister Dr Raman Singh, Chief Whip Devji Bhai Patel and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brij Mohan Agrawal proposed the name of Chandel, which was seconded by both the BSP members Saurav Singh and Dujram Boudh, besides Badridhar Diwan of BJP.
After Speaker Dharam Lal Kaushik declared Chandel elected, Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, Dharamjeet and a host of members congratulated the BJP leader.
