Raipur, February 10, 2009: As many as 480 people, including 203 policemen were killed in the last two years by the Maoists, Chhattisgarh Government told the state Assembly today.
Between April 1, 2007 and January 15, 2009 as many as 277 people, 154 policemen and 49 Special Police Officers (SPOs) were killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh, replying to a question of the Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey, Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar said.
During that period the Maoists have also committed 1190 incidents of violence, Kanwar said.
In Bijapur district the Maoists have committed 450 incidents where as 262 in Dantewada district.
In Narayanpur district 174 incidents, 160 in Kanker, 72 in Bastar, 29 in Rajnandgaon, 22 in Balrampur, Six each in Raipur and Durg districts, Surajpur has four, two each in Sarguja and Korea and one incident in Jashpur district, the Home Minister said.
Among the families of the killed persons, 167 out of 277 people, 146 regular policemen out of 154 and 39 out of 49 SPOs have been provided relief or financial assistance.
