New Delhi, October 13, 2009: The Government of India has cautioned the people not to give their credit card details for getting Income Tax refunds.
Information had been received from several quarters that the Income Tax payers have received e-mails asking them to provide their credit card details to get their income tax refunds, officials said.
Looking into that information, it had been clarified that the Income Tax Department had not send any e-mails to any one regarding refunds.
For getting refunds of the tax, the Income Tax Department had not sought any information from the taxpayers regarding their credit cards, the Government said.
“Taxpayers are, therefore, cautioned that they should not respond to such mails and if they do so it would be at their risk and responsibility,” a Government communication said.
