Raipur, September 19, 2008: Two days uninterrupted rainfall today submerged about 50 villages in Raipur, Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh district, officials said today.

Due to downpour in Raipur district about 31 villages of Gariabandh block were hit by flash flood and the most affected people had been shifted to safer places, District Collector Raipur Sonmani Borah told the ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.

Janjgir-Champa district was also affected by flood today as four feet water was flowing over the Seori Narayan bridge of Mahanadi and the situation was also grim in Chandrapur of the same district, besides in some portion of Raigarh district. State Rehabilitation Commission office sources said.

In both the districts crops had been damaged but there was no loss of life reported from any parts of the state due to rain related incidents, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the state government said it had no report about the current flood situation of the state.

“We don’t have any report from any of the districts about the flood situation there,” Additional Secretary Revenue B L Agrawal said.

Agrawal also advised the ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com to talk to the district collectors individually to get information about the flood, if it wanted to compile details of flood.

Meanwhile, the District Collector Raipur had written a letter to the state government saying the flood situation was improving in the district hence it was not in need of any Indian Air Force helicopter, which was earlier sought yesterday to rescue villagers from three places in Gariabandh area.
