Raipur, August 30, 2016: Chhattisgarh Government today clarified that the gram panchayats and municipalities cannot stop distribution of PDS to any individual, who is facing fine charges by any local bodies.
Gram panchayats or municipalities slapped fine on any individual or for not payment of dues to the local bodies, they cannot stop distribution of the food grains and other materials to any ration card holders, the state government today clarified.
This is against the public distribution system and the Chief Minister Food Security Act, said an official.
As per the existing law the ration card holders or the actual beneficiaries are legally entitled to good quality food grain for a maintaining a proper life.
It had come to the notice of the administration that some gram panchayats and urban local bodies have ordered halt to distribution of PDS materials to beneficiaries for want of taxes or for leveling of fines to the ration card holder, the official said.
This act was nothing but violation of the Food Security Act of the state, said the official adding all the local bodies have been informed in writing that they cannot stop distribution. Rather they should help the beneficial get the food grains without any trouble.
In Durg district also the local gram panchayats have stopped distribution of PDS to beneficiaries for not constructing toilets in their houses.
