Raipur, September 17, 2025: The Government of Chhattisgarh today said they are verifying the authenticity of the purported letter of Maoists in which they had offered ceasefire talk.

“It needs to be verified. Only after the authenticity of the letter is verified a decision will be taken,” Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister-Home Vijay Sharma told reporters today.

However, Sharma questioned, if Maoists had decided on August 15, 2025, as mentioned as the date of letter, to go for a ceasefire then why they killed teachers or carried out IED (improvised explosive device) blasts in the state?

“There is a change in the format of the letter also. It has photo, Facebook and email IDs,” Sharma said giving one of the reasons why he is favouring verification of the letter.

“There is a change in writing style also. That needs to be verified.”

“Hence after checking the authenticity of the letter, we will take a decision, what to do,” he said.

To a question of out of fear the Maoists have appealed for ceasefire, the Home Minister said he would not say anything like that. But the Government wants developmental works to reach the villages.

The home minister had also objected to the word ceasefire, saying since there is no war, why should there be a peace talk or ceasefire.

Sharma had also said that the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the state government are determined that the Maoist violence would be eliminated by March 2026.
