Ambikapur/Raipur, June 28, 2011: At least 12 people were killed today and 16 injured when the boundary wall of the bunglow of Sarguja SP collapsed due to heavy rainfall, Chhattisgarh officials said.
“At least 12 people were killed and 16 are injured as the boundary wall of the residence of Sarguja SP collapsed due to heavy rainfall,” Sarguja district police chief Balaji Rao told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
It was raining continuously for the last three days, because of which the wall collapsed, Rao said.
Sarguja, shares border with Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand states and has a high presence of Maoists.
Because of the security reasons the government building was having about 10 feet high wall and due to downpour it collapsed, District Collector of Sarguja G S Dhananjaya also said.
“Forces and members of the district crisis team reached the spot immediately and saved the life of at least 16 people and shifted them to hospital with serious injuries,” Dhananjaya said.
Chhattisgarh received good amount of rainfall every year and either house collapse or due to flash flood scores of people are either killed or injured and a huge amount of properties damaged in the nature’s fury.
