Mungeli, January 12, 2012: Mungeli waited for 152 years to become a district of Chhattisgarh from a tehsil.
Mungeli was created a Tehsil by Britishers in the year 1860 but had to wait for 152 years to become a separate district of Chhattisgarh.
Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today formally inaugurated Mungeli as a district, which was carved out from historic Bilaspur district.
No tehsil had waited for such a longer period to become a district in the history of India, Singh told a function here at B R Sao School ground.
Assembly Speaker Dharam Lal Kaushik and Food and Civil Supply Minister and local MLA Punnu Lal Mohile also addressed the gathering.
