Raigarh, September 07, 2015: A rogue elephant today trampled a Chinese engineer in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, when the foreigner was on a forestry area.
“A wild elephant today trampled a Chinese engineer in Kathghora forest area,” Raigarh District Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Shukla told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
“The Chinese national is identified as Jong Kitau, who was giving service for a power plant TRN Engineers Limited at Raigarh district,” Shukla said.
The engineer was an employee of a Chinese company CWPC, which is hired for construction of the power plant in Raigarh district, the police officer said.
The incident took place, when two Chinese nationals were on a morning walk in Katangidih forest area when they were face to face with a rogue elephant, the officer said.
Katangidih is in Gharghoda police station area of Raigarh district, about 300 Kilometre from the Chhattisgarh capital Raipur.
The other Chinese national had fled from the scene with minor injuries, but Jong Kitau was trampled to death on the spot by the wild animal, Shukla said.
Raigarh with other districts in north of Chhattisgarh and adjoining area of Orissa, and Jharkhand are the corridor for elephant and over 150 wild elephants are active there.
Due to man-elephant conflict scores of people have been killed or injured in the three states and many of the houses and standing crop were damaged by the wild animals in the last one decade.
